What are the advantages of object oriented databases in comparison with others? Why it is still not widely used?

Object oriented designs are coherent, efficient and less prone to update problems which are not present in many other database design techniques currently. It is not used widely since only few the database vendors have supported it. It is still not in commercial stream. It is in development stage.
