Tasks Objectives:

1. Manage client-server connections using RDBMS Net Services

2. Evaluate requirements and select appropriate parameters to ensure effective storage management in a database system

3. Manage Redo log information of a database

Task # 1 Submit a work proposal for this assignment by the end of week 9th i.e. 10th Dec, 2016 (11:55 pm) which must include:

- Understanding of deliverables - a detail description of deliverables
- General overview of proposed plan - initial understanding of solution for the task-2 to task-4.
- Resources identified

The work proposal must be submitted in a word file through the link available in Moodle.

Task # 2 "DB caching improves the performance."

In light of the above context, as a DBA, outline and discuss a DB caching in the middle tier of server architecture.

You may refer to the research article "Middle-Tier Database Caching for e-Business *", provided in the Moodle as web link. Your solution must be applicable for any database system but not for a specific product. However, you may include some examples from a specific DBMS product for illustration. The discussion must be in your own words and not exceeding two pages.

Task # 3 Consider you are working as a Database Administrator for a certain organization. One of your job responsibilities is to load data from external data sources into the organization's database. Prepare a solution to achieve the following tasks:
- Loading data from a variable length format data file.
- Loading data from a fixed length format data file.
- The data must include at least three data types of which a date column must be included.

The solution must include brief explanation of steps involved in loading of external data into the database. Mere writing of commands will not help you in gaining full marks. You may choose any database system of your choice available in the college lab (MS SQL Server / Oracle).

Task # 4 Prepare for a presentation in Week#12 on "redo logs and archiving".

Note:
- You must include the contents of this presentation slides in the assignment document file you upload in Moodle.
- You may prepare 12-15 slides for the presentation.
- Duration of presentation is 10 minutes.
