.Task 1 Database design
This task will allow you to demonstrate the following Learning Outcomes
(LOs):
LO 2. Justify the design and development of the application and critically evaluate
their implementation approach.
LO 4. Prepare appropriate entity relationship diagrams and SQL queries in order to
efficiently manage data within the web application.
You are to select, justify and use appropriate methodologies to design the database
required for this web site. You must include all the design material within your
submission. At this level of study, you are required to select appropriate tools and
methodologies yourself and use them correctly for the task. Your selection of tools
and methodologies, justification of that selection and use of the tools and
methodologies are all part of the assessment.
Submit: The documentation of your database design.
Task 2 Web site design
This task will allow you to demonstrate the following Learning Outcomes
(LOs):
LO 3. Design and implement an online business system meeting the needs of both
the user and the client.
LO 6. Use an industry standard integrated development environment (IDE) for the
design and implementation of the website
You are to select, justify and use appropriate methodologies to design the web site.
You must include all the design material within your submission. At this level of
study, you are required to select appropriate tools and methodologies yourself and
use them correctly for the task. Your selection of tools and methodologies,
justification of that selection and use of the tools and methodologies are all part of
the assessment.
Submit: You web site design documentation.
Task 3 Implementation
This task will allow you to demonstrate the following Learning Outcomes
(LOs):
LO 6. Use an industry standard integrated development environment (IDE) for the
design and implementation of the website
You are to select, justify and use appropriate software to build your web site.
IMPORTANT NOTE
You must submit your web site for marking. This means you must build so that it is
contained entirely within a folder or directory and can be zipped up for uploading to
the student server. This must be uploaded to the student server following the
instructions given in the “Guide to uploading to the student server” document
on the module page on iLearn.
Submit: Your web site as a single folder, zipped, containing everything necessary for
your site to run and uploaded to the student server. You must do this as well as the
next task.
Task 4 Release
This task will allow you to demonstrate the following Learning Outcomes:
1. Manage the implementation phase of a web application and deploy
appropriate client-side and server-side technologies.
You are to provide a working URL for your web site. This may be via your own web
server or via a commercially available or free web hosting service. This URL must
be live and available from the UK from the submission date for at least THREE
MONTHS to allow for marking and verification of results. It is up to you to make sure
that the URL is live. If the URL is not available for marking, you will not pass the
assignment.
If you have a web server available that has an Internet connection, then you can use
that. Otherwise, there are many organisations offering free web hosting services
with appropriate facilities for things like PHP and mySQL. Search on “free web
hosting”.
Submit: Your working URL. This must be clearly indicated within your submission so
that the marker can find it and use it easily.
Task 5 Launch
This task will allow you to demonstrate the following Learning Outcomes:
5. Recognise the need for continual development and marketing of an online
business system using multimedia objects.
Once the web site is built, the company need to launch it. They plan to do this via
Flash adverts that will be placed on the web sites of photographic magazines such
as What Digital Camera (http://www.whatdigitalcamera.com/).
You
are to design and build a suitable advert for this launch. In order to demonstrate
this advert, you should provide a link within your web site home page to the “Launch
Advert”.
Submit: Your launch advert Flash application, built in to your web site and accessed
via a link on the home page saying “Launch Advert”.
