Descriptive statistics for variable "Points on Final":
Mean = 83.20 Median = 80 SD = 11 (10.52 rounded)
Using the information given in Tables 1a & 1b answer the following:

a. For each variable listed in Tables 1a-b describe the level or scale of measurement

Points on Final:

b. Is the distribution of scores for each section for the variable "Points on Final" symmetrical or skewed? If skewed in which direction? Fill in your answers below and explain your reasoning. (Hint: Is there a difference between the mean and the median?)

EDPS 530- Section 1 (Table 1a):
EDPS 530 Section 2 (Table 1b):

c. For the variable "Points on Final," what does the SD for the two sections tell us about the performance of the two groups on the final exam?

d. Provide any measure of variability (other than the SD) for the variable "Points on Final" for each section

EDPS 530- Section 1 (Table 1a):

EDPS 530 Section 2 (Table 1b):

e. If a student in Section 1 had obtained a z score of 0.00 on "Points on Final" what would this student's raw score have been?

f. A researcher suspects that there is a significant difference in the performance of students enrolled in Sections 1 and 2 of EDPS 530 because the sections are always offered at different times of the day. He decides to investigate this by comparing the means of the two sections from Tables 1a-b for the variable "Points on Final." What is the researcher's Null Hypothesis (Ho) and his Alternate Hypothesis (H1)?

g. The researcher uses an ANOVA procedure (which yields an F statistic), to test if the Null Hypothesis can be rejected. He selects a criterion of p = .01 for rejecting the Null Hypothesis. Explain what this means.

h. After completing the ANOVA procedure, the researcher obtains the following result: F (1, 18) = .7507, p = .4119. What can the researcher conclude from this statistic? Explain the decision process.
