Given a set of user specifications for a database, you will create an entity-relationship diagram and accompanying table layouts. Your grade will be determined by the degree to which your model follows my guidelines and those of the text and the online modules; the logic, concision, and clarity of your design explanation; and the overall physical appearance of your submission. Visit Projects | Project 1 to gain an expectation of how your ERD, should be displayed. Table descriptions, with primary key and if applicable foreign key and all attributes should be included. Attributes should be self-describing. Foreign keys in a table should indicate the table where the matching primary key value is found. Accuracy of the ERD is crucial, the appearance and readability is also very important. All tables must be 3rd Normal Form. Indicate any and all assumptions that were made.

User Specifications for Project 1:

In Washington, DC a group of creative UMUC IFSM graduates wish to develop an online Auction. This auction will offer its clients the opportunity to buy and sell items no longer required for personal use. As with other online auction services, the new system will offer its clients the ability to list items for sale which will include but will not be limited to starting price, specified bid increments, photographs, as well as the ability to upload HTML code to allow for creative and appealing displays. Other relevant information such as shipping methods, prices, item category, from and to dates of the item availability will be included. Prospective buyers will make online bids for the merchandise in which they are interested. The winner of the auction is the highest bidder when the auction expires, a sales transaction then follows between the buyer and the seller. To promote excellence and integrity among buyers and sellers, a rating system utilizing feedback will be available for all clients to view.
