For this assignment you are to act as a small team working for a start-up specialising in presenting up-to-date cumulative nationwide information.

You can pick which nation this is set in. The project is very loosely described by your boss as:

"I want a national version of the global Worldometer site: http://www.worldometers.info/ and we will call this the Nationometer".

The remit is flexible. Your boss is expecting you to come up with ideas for what sort of information you will present and how you will source it. You will need to be aware of issues like privacy and accuracy if you do not want your company to get sued!

You explicitly do not need to worry about the business model and marketing elements of the overall project. Your team is only tasked with presenting the data elements, and your boss will do the rest.

Your choice of tools is entirely up to you. It is suggested that you do not commit yourself until you more than half way through the module so that you have seen some possible solutions. On the other hand, DO NOT leave this to the last minute since it is a sizeable task. For this reason we expect you to share with us your team's outline project plan during the week after this brief is released so we all can be sure your scope is appropriate.

In broad outline these are the steps that we expect you will need to take to complete assignment, although these should only be seen as guidance - you can arrive at the finished report however you like, provided you meet the assessment criteria.

The maximum group size for this exercise is 4. If you are a group of 4 we will expect a far more extensive set of data items in the Nationometer than if you are a smaller group. This will also mean that you will need to think carefully about your requirements, design and data handling strategies as these sections will, of necessity, need to be bigger.

Task One : Write a report about how your Nationometer works and provide a URL link to a working version

• Understand the different types of dataset you may need to use and how you can gain access to them
• Think through the collection and processing steps you will need to carry out
• create a set of requirements
• Design and implement the front and back end

• Synthesise a data handling strategy for the organisation using information from your own research and present a case for that strategy.
• Present a URL which is a demonstration of a Nationometer page The hand-in date for this report 11pm on Friday 18th December 2015.

Task Two : Critically reflect upon the experience you had whilst building the Nationometer

You should work on this element on your own. You should talk about what went well, and what went badly; how you might do things differently if you were to do it again. All elements of that phase can be reviewed, but the choice is yours. We would expect at least the process to be reviewed. You might consider keeping a learning blog as you undertake this module, and its content could easily help you with this.
