Integrating Applications

Purpose: Demonstrate ability to integrate the skills associated with word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.

Requirements/Directions:

Using your Microsoft Office skills, submit documents that show your competency in doing the following:

Databases (Access ®)
Create a data merge source with at least 10 records of names (first name and last name as 2 different fields), addresses (address, city, state, zip as 4 different fields), and at least one other field (You decide this field.) You total fields should be a minimum of 7.
Include your instructor as one of the 10 names with the LTEC office snail-mail address. You can find this address at the LTEC home page ---> http://lt.unt.edu/
Make your zip code field a number style field (and thus only include the first 5 numbers).
Include a query of your choice that singles out one record, showing all fields. Thus, you should only have one row of information. Ex. You could put "Denton" in the city field and possibly get one record. Putting a certain last name or first name may give you one record as well. Look at your data and decide for yourself the best option.
Include a tabular style form for data input of all fields. (Fields are across the top.)
Include a columnar style report based on the query (not the table), showing all fields. (Fields should be going down the left hand side. Since you are basing this on the query, and not the table, you should ONLY have one record!)
Spreadsheets (Excel ®)

Create a financial spreadsheet on a topic of your choice with at least 5 rows and 5 columns of numbers. Row or column text headings do not count towards the 5X5 requirement.
Include at least one formula. Ex. B3+B4
Include at least one function. Ex. SUM(B3:B9) Other popular functions include: IF, MIN, MAX, AVERAGE
Include a chart of your choice that allows you to show the following:
Title
Legend
Labeled X Axis
Labeled Y Axis
Thus, you need to pick a chart that has X and Y axes.

Word Processing (Word ®)
Create a letter that you will merge with the data merge source (database) and the chart from the spreadsheet that you created above. The letter body text/topic should be creatively related to your database and spreadsheet. It is ok if your letter is longer than one page. You will turn in two files for this part, the main document AND the merged document. The merged file will end up showing all ten letters, thus this file will be at least 10 pages long.
The main document must show the following:

Name and address fields at the top (Ex. «FirstName» «LastName», etc.)
Salutation with the first and last namen database fields
Body of the letter with one database field of your choice
The main document must have the following from the spreadsheet:

The linked chart (not embedded, not a hyperlink, not an icon) somewhere in the document
The merged document must have the following information from the database merged for all ten people (and all 10 people MUST be in one file):

Name and address at the top (Ex. Linda Robinson, etc.)
Salutation with the person's first and last names
Body of the letter with one merged field of your choice
The merged document must have the following from the spreadsheet:

The linked chart (not embedded, not a hyperlink, not an icon) somewhere in the document
What to Turn in:

A compressed/zipped file containing 4 files: the database file, the spreadsheet file, the word processing main document showing all «merged fields» placeholders, and the 10-page (or more) merged word file, each name on a new page.
See Schedule For Due Date. (Late -30)

Grading Rubric:
