- A production server can't afford to restart at random intervals to update, thus automatically update and restarting is simply not feasible.
- In addition, another server might be serving updates to the network through WSUS (Windows Server Update Service) to reduce the bandwidth used in updating each individual PCs and/or Servers

MMC - Microsoft Management Console

- MMC acts as a common interface for management snap-ins. You can add/remove snap-ins.
- MMC can be used to manage local settings of both
local and remote servers
- Add the following snap-ins:
- Device Manager (Local Computer)
- Disk Management (Local Computer)
- Event Viewer (Local)
- Windows Firewall
- Task Scheduler (Local)

Custom View

- Create a custom view with the following properties:
- Logged: Last 24 hours
- Event Type: Critical, Error, Warning
- Event logs: Windows Logs -> System; Applications and Services Logs -> Hardware Events; and Applications and Services Logs -> Microsoft

- Press OK and close the window
- The processor graphs should starting to be drawn
- Record date, time
- Record all configuration updates you have made to the server during this practical tasks. Add screen shots if necessary to highlight the changes.
- Report any errors/warnings from the event viewer
- Create a custom counter on performance monitor that shows processor time, TCP established connections, system processes and thread parameters.
- Collect performance information for 5 min.
- Report the performance values of each parameter (with screen
shots)
- Record the server status at the time you have done everything e.g. running normally or any observable issues.
