Prepare a report on Network administration and support

Network administration and support

Network administration and support is essential if a network is going to function effectively. However, the function if a network administrator has changed rapidly over the years. This is because of the introduction and adoption of different concepts into the operability of a given network. Networks have evolved from peer-to-peer networks, to client-server networks, and to the current virtual networks. This in turn has caused the function of a network administrator to evolve

Network administration and support was originally associated with networks such as Peer-to-peer networks and later the client server networks. The original networks were the peer to peer networks, where a computer would be directly connected to another computer in a given network.

The network administrator's job was to connect the computers in question and ensure that the sharing of files over the said network is possible. However, the development of the client server network resulted in a network that was dependent on a local server. The support team created a network that was based on individual servers.

For instance, the computers in the network had dedicated file servers and mail servers. The modern network operating systems have adopted virtualization that has technically eradicated the need for such servers within a local network (Milojicic&Roscoe, 2016).

The specialization of given networks within a given virtual network to support the function of the said servers has eradicated their need. Therefore, the administration of such networks is found to have increasingly become specified.
