Part 1: Network Diagram

You want to install a home network. You have a PC tower that you use mainly for your school work and hobby (editing and printing photos). Your spouse has a laptop that is used primarily for online school work. Your two teenage kids have laptops they use for school work, web surfing, and entertainment (MP3s and video clips), and you host a Web Server for your volunteer organization.

Provide a network design, a drawing of a solution to address the following:

i Transferring of videos and music files between computers
ii Sharing Internet connection, one laser printer, and one photo printer
iii Securing your network
iv Accessing your PC remotely (remote access solution to be specified)
v People of your community accessing web sites (static web pages) hosted on your web server

The diagram should be complete with proper icons, connectors, devices/services, etc... You are not limited to Microsoft Visio. You may use any diagramming tool available, such as Edraw and SmartDraw, but the preference is Visio - as Visio is the industry gold standard tool for network diagramming. No need to provide a wordy explanation of your network design, just a simple design with the proper documentation... MAC users may use a compatible product such as OmniGraffle.

Instructions are given in Announcements for possibly downloading a free trial copy of Visio. You can also download a free trial copy of Edraw or SmartDraw.

NOTES:

1 Please copy and paste your diagram into MS Word, and verify that the diagram is viewable in Word document
2 Submit the Word document for grading (do not submit the Visio file, or the Edraw/SmartDraw/Graffle/etc. file)
3 If inserting the diagram into Word doesn't work, try to save drawing into PDF, and submit a PDF document

Part 2:

Review: Networking Models, Traffic and Devices

The purpose of this activity is to reinforce what you have learned so far about local area networks technologies.

1. Describe the three modes of communication available on a network. (Minimum word count: 60)

2. List the seven layers of the OSI model, including both layer number and name for each. (Minimum word count: 20)

3. Describe a protocol data unit (PDU). (Minimum word count: 30)

4. List three practical functions of the OSI model. (Minimum word count: 60)

5. Describe a collision domain. (Minimum word count: 70)

Part 3:

Instructions:

Create a FLOWCHART and a PSEUDOCODE for each problem.??Use the information below to create a pseudocode (which can be a text-based description for solving the problems) and a flowchart (using flowchart symbols to illustrate how you would program) to solve each problem.

You may use Microsoft Word for your pseudocode and Microsoft PowerPoint for your flowchart.

1. Problem 1: Write a program that will calculate the problem and stop after the condition has been met. This is an IF/THEN/ELSE problem.

a=1
b=a+1
c=a+b

Condition: If c is less than 5, then the loop will continue; else, it will end.

2. How many loops will be necessary to meet the condition? Why?

Create one pseudocode (using Microsoft Word) and one flowchart (using Microsoft PowerPoint) for the problem above. Zip all files into one zip file.
