Discussion: The Internet of Everything

For this discussion, imagine the following scenario:

Britney and Madonna are perceived as 'old school' by newer tech rock stars. However, they have teamed up to work on a new process that they believe will be more in harmony with the new Internet of Everything (IOE) and get all the techs singing off the same song sheet. What happened yesterday was a good case in point. Perhaps you can read the documentation below submitted by Justin B. to see the issue they feel needs to be addressed.

Justin B.'s tech log from yesterday:

I came into a work a little late and when I logged on at 1:15pm, I discovered that the domain server was not available and had to login locally. I pinged my crazy neighbor successfully, then the default gateway address, 192.168.2.1, and got a successful reply there as well. Then I pinged the domain server 192.168.3.4 and got a request timed out message. I thought the domain controller was down, but my crazy neighbor said he was not having a problem reaching the domain controller or Facebook. At that point I assumed I was going to get fired and no one had showed up to tell me, so I just sat there for a few hours chillin'. After regaining consciousness, I checked my TCPIP settings. The default gateway was set to 192.168.2.1 so I figured my settings were correct. But I had one of those moments when I was like, cool, or at least awake, and figured I should check my neighbor's settings since his machine was working and he was out flirting with someone. I could not believe it when I saw what in his settings were different. I was so happy because even though I wasted the whole day, no one showed up to fire me.

In your discussion post:

Consider Britney, Madonna, and Justin B.'s scenario. Compose answers to the two questions below:

  1. Admittedly, Justin's life has been a little too easy for a little too long, but beyond that, what do you think Justin discovered that made for a happy ending?
  2. Britney and Madonna are using this experience with Justin to justify something that might prevent such things. What do you think they have in mind?

Hints: Consider what was working and what was not. Think deeply about things that could have happened to cause this.
