Case Study Problem

JCI management received your deliverable regarding virtualization, and they appreciated your explanation of the difference between virtualization and the cloud. They are under the false premise that the cloud provider will provide all of the security that is necessary. The chief information officer (CIO) especially is reluctant to spend any additional resources on what he believes is already being taken care of by the provider. He feels that this will be paying for the same service twice.

Task

In this assignment, the section Cloud Computing Security will be added to this report. Then, the report will be submitted as the first draft of the Key Assignment.

The following sections of the Data and Applications Security Impact Analysis and Mitigation Report should now be complete:

• Project Outline and Requirements
• Project Life Cycle Security Measures
• Security Vulnerability Assessment
• Virtualization Security Impact Analysis

The project deliverables are as follows:

• Tasks to be completed before adding the new content for Week 4:

o Update the Data and Applications Security Impact Analysis and Mitigation Report document title page with a new date and project name.
o Update the previously completed sections based on your instructor's feedback.

• New content to be delivered for Week 4: Cloud Computing Security:

o Identification of security risks to be addressed in the cloud computing environment:

- Operating system and other infrastructure complexity
- Unauthorized user access
- Increased administrator roles
- Legal compliance
- Issues related to programmer service mapping to the cloud
- Accesses to services moved to the cloud

o Describe the application that is being released into the cloud computing environment and how this affects security from a standpoint of network communications, system configuration, security controls, and user responsibilities.

o Describe the migration of corporate resources to various types of clouds, such as the private, public, hybrid, and community clouds, and the associated deployment model.

o Describe how services are related to cloud computing (e.g., software, platforms, and infrastructure services).

o Describe how organizations are placing controls and access policies on their data to control accesses to data and their locations on servers and off-site data locations.
