But he wants to be able to sit on his deck when using his new laptop to do his online schoolwork, check email, play games, and participate in social networking sites (instead of being bound to his office desktop system.

  1. Design a wireless network for Allen using his existing desktop and laptop.

  3. (10%) Define the term ergonomics. Why is ergonomics important when a computer is designed? What purpose does ergonomics serve in an office or home setting? What are the consequences of a poor ergonomically-designed workspace?

  4. (10%) What is a computer-based information system? Describe how WebTycho fits the definition of a computer-based information system. Into which type(s) of information systems does WebTycho fit? How does this system benefit UMUC? Who is the audience or level of management served by this information system? How do the audience or level of management benefit?

  5.  (10%) Name the four (4) principle types of memory chips, and explain the differences and similarities between them. In your response, demonstrate your understanding by using your own words. For a computer running Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010, what type of memory might you want, and what is the recommended amount?

During the break, someone accidentally deletes your database file. What MIGHT you have done that would enable you to recover the project without re-doing all your work?

13. What are the benefits of using Slide Master view in PowerPoint?

14. Describe how you would add an animation to one of your PowerPoint presentation slides. Discuss what you should consider when using animations in the presentation.

15. Name the five (5) views available in MS Word, and identify which of those five (5) is the default view.

16. You have accepted or have been transferred to a new job across the country. The steps involved in relocating yourself and your family can be evaluated by using the SDLC. List each phase of the cycle, and provide at least one (1) item that would be found in each of the six (6) phases of a typical SDLC as applied to your move.
