Task 1 Operating System Suitability Assessment Plan

Develop a tool that helps companies in assessing the suitability of different operating systems for their businesses. This tool is a table with multiple rows and columns. Table 1 is a simple and incomplete example of this table. Your table should have at least five columns, as presented in Table 1. You can add more columns if you deem necessary. How customers will use this tool is up to you. For example, you can ask customers to tick one of the three candidate operating systems in each row. You can also ask customers to provide ratings (1-10) for each candidate operating system in each row.

Task 2 Case Study

Use the tool developed in Task 1 to assess the suitability of different operating systems for the below companies. For each factor, provide detailed rationale behind the selection or ratings.

ABSoft Private Limited

ABSoft Private Limited is a new company specialized in video games design and development. The company which is set to start off with 25 employees requires high performance computers to run its business. As the company business will focus on the design and development of 3D games, it will need to purchase computer applications that support 3D game development.

D&M Studios

D&M Studios is a company specialized in wedding photography. The company headquarters will be in Kuching city, Sarawak. The company is planning to open branches in Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur and Penang with 5 employees at each branch. D&M Studio's business requires intensive use of photo editing software and other software that ease the communication among branches.

Smart Home Pty Ltd

This new company will start off with 30 employees. However, in its strategic plan, this company plans to become a medium size company with 150 employees in 2 years. The company's core business is to develop system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for Internet of Things.

Task 3 Cloud Solution

The three companies from Task 2 have decided to use virtual machines provided by Amazon EC2 to fulfil their requirements as detailed below. You need to select a number of Amazon EC2 instances for each of the companies based on the price and configuration of theEC2 instances available on Amazon WebServices, e.g., m2.micro, m4.2xlarge, etc.The solution must fulfil the companies' minimum requirements at a minimum total cost. Your selection of EC2 instances, the rationale and calculation for the selection must be described in detail.
