Purpose of this assignment:
The purpose of this written assignment is to verify students' knowledge on some of the topics covered in the second half of the course: The Device Handler, File management, Deadlock, UNIX/Linux OS commands. Students must answer Multiple Answer Questions and write a report on selected OS topics and algorithms. In this assignment students would:
- Apply their knowledge on the topic of device handler's seek strategies in answering a question related to the topic
- Report their understanding on system deadlock and provide an example of a deadlock scenario for a given system
- Demonstrate their competency in the use of a command line interface to operate with and manage Unix/Linux OS
Description of this assignment:
This assignment consists of two parts:
Part A: An online quiz Assignment 2, which includes 40questions. Students may have 3 attempts at this quiz. The system will keep the highest grade.
Part B: Answering 3questions related to aspects of Operating Systems, worth 60 marks.

1. Your submission should include the following:
- The cover page must identify student (name and number), teaching staff, and assignment.
- The assignment must use 12-point font size minimum and at least single line spacing with appropriate section headings.
- Reference sources must be cited in the text of the report, and listed appropriately at the end in a reference list. a Describe the four conditions of deadlock in your own word.

b. Consider a system with five dedicated devices and four processes (process A, B, C and D) that require a maximum of two devices to complete the task. Draw a directed graph of a scenario that demonstrates there is a deadlock in the system. You can use any number of devices (maximum five) and processes (maximum four) in your demonstration. Explain your graph with details.

a Document the following UNIX commands (in clear and concise form):

Each of the above commands must be documented to the extent so that the reader of your report could understand how each command works, including the following points:
- Brief introduction of the function of the command in your own words (in 2-3 sentences)
- The basic syntax of the command, including options. Where appropriate, give a brief description in your own words of at least two options of the command.
- At least two examples of the usage of the command that you have used in lab (provide screen capture).
