Use the following outline to write a report (3 pages) on the current Zika virus outbreak. Use your textbook AND web-based material to find the necessary current information.

Define Zika. Viral definition, morphology, classification, etc.

Reservoir: where is it most commonly found?

Transmission: how do humans become infected? How is this virus spreading globally?

People at risk: what are the populations at risk of infection?

Current outbreak: describe the current outbreak: chronology, countries involved, number of infections reported to date, number of affected babies, source, actions taken to stop the disease spread.

What is Zika virus disease?

Describe the disease and its possible sequelae (congenital microcephaly and Guillain-Barré syndrome), its origin and how it affects human populations.

Are Zika infections a notifiable disease in the United States?

Who tracks infectious outbreaks in the US and the rest of the world?

Treatment. How is the disease treated?

Prevention. How can you reduce the risk of infection? Is there an available vaccine?

Public Health. What measures are being taken at the national and global government level? How do these types of outbreaks affect local and global economies and people's nutritional perceptions and choices?
