You are working as a project manager for ABC Engineering Projects Ltd. It specialises in Management Consultancy and Operation and Maintenance services.
The Engineering services include Product Design, Engineering Analysis, Application Development, Asset Information Management, Plant Engineering and Engineering Process Design using cutting-edge CAD/CAM/CAE software backed by highly qualified engineers. The company is involved with many internal projects such as Wind Turbine Operation, Broadcasting and telecommunication, Motor industry Transport Services (TFL, Network Rail) which modify vehicle parts for maintenance, manufacturing process management.You are responsible for managing multiple projects and providing training to trainee project managers. Your Managing Director has asked you to explore the project management principles and present it to the trainees. Hence you have to perform the following tasks.
TASK 1 (P1.1)
Explain the principles of project management with particular emphasis on:
- The role of the Project Manager
- The impact of external influences on project
- Major Project phases in project life cycle, rational behind them and the work in each phase
Your Task is to:

- knowledge of project information support (IS) systems; how to integrate human and material resources to achieve successful projects
TASK 4 (P1.4)
Explain key elements involved in
a) terminating projects (audit trails; punch lists; close-out reports)
b) conducting post-project appraisals (comparison of project outcome with business objectives)
TASK 5 (M3)
Present and communicate appropriate findings.
a) Present your findings in report form for tasks 1 and 3 including:
- Logical development of project management principles to achieve successful project outcomes
- Use accurate technical project management language
- How will you apply project management principles to successfully plan and manage a project?
- What issues will you encounter in applying these principles?
b) Carry out 5 minutes power point presentation to communicate your findings to your peers/tutor. (minimum 10 slides)
