Wild-type fruit flies have brick-red eyes. A pure-breeding strain of wild-type flies was crossed with a pure-breeding strain with white eyes. The F1 flies all had brick-red eyes. When the F1 flies were intercrossed, the F2 consisted of 272 flies with brick-red eyes, 31 flies with white eyes and 177 flies with a scarlet (bright red) eye color. Explain these results and show the genotypes of the P, F1 and F2 generations.
