Now  cells is  a highly organized  unit  mass of  living  matter or protoplasm  i.e.  a highly organized complex  chemical  system.  Therefore livingness  of a cell resides  in the physic  chemical  activities within  is organization and these activities  must  continue  uninterrupted as long  as the  cell is  to remain alive  the sum total  of these  physic chemical  activities  is called cell or intermediary metabolism,  because every  cellular  activity  necessarily    involves  chemical  transformation  of matter.
