The instantaneous power p into a one port containing resistors and inductors has maximum value 100(1+sqrt2) W and minimum value 100(1-sqrt2)W. (note that instantaneous power is measured in W, and it contains various contributions from both real and reactive power.)
(a) Find the real and reactive powers P and Q into the one port.
(b) Suppose the one port is a series RL circuit and the one port voltage has amplitude 100sqrt2V. Calculate R, L and the inductor current I. (Use 60Hz for the frequency.)
(c) Calculate the inductor current and voltage as functions of time and hence the instantaneous power into the inductor. Confirm that the amplitude of the instantaneous power into the inductor is Q.
(d) What assumptions about the system are we tacitly making for the calculations in (a),(b) and (c)?
