The Factors of Programme Delay in Construction Industry in Hong Kong

Aims

The aims of this dissertation is to investigate the factors contributing to time overrun and application of time management, techniques for contractors in Hong Kong and to make recommendation for improved practice.

Objectives

The objectives of the study are:

i. Literature review of recent research to identify the techniques used in time management by contractors in Hong Kong

ii. To investigate extent and effectiveness of the application of time management; the techniques/systems used by main contractors in Hong Kong

iii. To identify the factors influencing time management; factors cause programme overrun.

iv. To evaluate, analyze and evaluate the factors contributing to time overrun for contractors in Hong Kong

v. To make recommends for improved cost management for main contractors in Hong Kong for techniques and watch out key factors

1. The aims and objectives need to be re-phrased to indicate the scope of study clearly.

2. The scope of study need to be narrowed down (e.g. major civil construction projects, large scale building projects, or small alteration and additional works etc.) as there is limitation in time and capability of student.

3. Citation to most of the literature search is missing.

4. The literature search has NOT been completed as the following aspects planned in the objectives have not been elaborated:

a. techniques used in time management by contractors in Hong Kong

b. the extent and effectiveness on the application of time management

c. factors leading to overrun of construction projects in Hong Kong

d. ways on improvement of time management for main contractors in Hong Kong.

5. Hypothesis or research questions need to be formulated prior to data collection.
