TASK INTRODUCTION -

You are a consultant electrical engineer. You have been asked to analyse a series of AC networks and document your findings in a technical report

TASK 1: Apply circuit theory techniques to the solution of AC circuit problems

A coil of inductance 225mH and series resistance 25 Ω is connected in parallel with a 100uF capacitor. If the network is connected across a 250V 50Hz supply, calculate the following:

(a) The supply current (magnitude and phase angle)

(b) The current in the capacitor (magnitude and phase angle)

(c) The current in the coil (magnitude and phase angle)

(d) The total power dissipated

(e) The circuit power factor

Task 2: Apply circuit theory techniques to the solution of AC circuit problems

For the network below, show correct method of analysis in an attempt to determine the magnitude and phase angle of the currents I1, I2 and I3 using ONE of the following circuit analysis theorems.

  • Nodal
  • Mesh
  • Superposition

(M2) Opportunity for merit. Produce the SAME results for Task 2: Using all three methods with a high degree of accuracy. Provide a table of results like the one below including simulated together with an explanation of any discrepancies.

(D1&D3) Opportunity for distinction. Produce the SAME results for Task 2: Using all three methods with a high degree of accuracy. Provide a table of results like the one below including simulated together with an explanation of any discrepancies.
