Problem: What is the difference between a sympathetic versus a parasympathetic nerve signal? Describe how one effector organ of your choice is innervated by parasympathetic and sympathetic nerve fibers. Identify the nerve that delivers the signal and include a description of the pathway the nerve fibers travel, and what affect each has on the organ.
For example, the salivary glands are innervated by the Facial Nerve (CNVII) which delivers a parasympathetic nerve impulse that signals saliva production for digestion (chewing your food). They are innervated by a thoracic nerve that exits out of the spinal cord and travels through the cervical ganglion to deliver a sympathetic nerve signal that inhibits saliva production. This is why your mouth dries up when you put on the spot, have to speak in front of a large group, or are frightened by something.
