SEX DIFFERENTIATION MECHANISM -

Primitive gonads are identical in both sexes upto 6 weeks of gestation pressure.
This gonad is known as bipotential primordial gonad. It is differentiated into cortex and medulla.
Formation & devlopment of gonad is gonadogenesis.
In male devlopement of testes is controlled by Y-chromosome.
Testicular differentiation begins in the 7th week of gestation.
Differentiation of ovaries occur later in female in comparision to male or testes. It begins int he 11th or 12rh week of gestation under control of XX chromosomes.
Testes descend down in scrotum in 7th - 8th month. Ext. genitilia appear in male by the 5th month.
