Scenario: Olivia is an experienced RN working on the ECHO Rehabilitation Unit. She has been assigned to "pass meds" on her 40 bed medical-surgical unit. The census on the unit is at capacity so she is very busy. After administering a stool softener to the patient in room 600 she realizes that medication was ordered for the patient in room 601. "No harm" she thinks since it is only a stool softener and most patients on the unit receive this medication at one time or another and fails to report or document the medication error.

Discuss the legal and ethical implications of Olivia's decision in your initial post to the discussion board. While the nursing process is intended for use in developing an appropriate plan of patient care suggest ways in which this problem solving approach could to be applied to address this situation. Be able to describe how you would use the steps of the nursing process to gather data about the circumstance, plan, make decisions and evaluate whether or not the effort was effective.
