Robbie Maddison's World Record Vertical Leap

1. On New Year's eve 2008, Australian daredevil Robbie Maddison set the world record vertical leap on a motorcycle when he made an incredible 10-story (roughly 100 foot) jump from the ground to the top of the Arc de Triomphe at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas.  Perhaps even more incredible, he then proceeded to jump his motorcycle off of the 10-story building to a large ramp below.  See the video at:

http://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video?p=robbie+maddison+new+year%27s+leap

Robbie's up ramp was positioned roughly 40 feet from the building, and he needed to jump 20 feet beyond the height (y-direction) of the building for safety reasons.  Also, he needed to land roughly 20 feet from the edge of the top of the building (x-direction).  If he is too short or too far he could fall from either front or back of the building.

a) Watch the video and estimate Robbie's takeoff speed (in mph) and angle of trajectory.

b) Using the information provided above, calculate Robbie's takeoff speed (in mph) and angle of trajectory to make this jump.

c) Assuming Robbie's landing ramp coming off of the building is 20 feet from the building and rises to a height of 40 feet, calculate his takeoff velocity to hit his ramp perfectly.

d) If Robbie's takeoff speed was one mph higher than ideal, how much error (in feet) would he experience on the ramp)?

e) What is Robbie's velocity at impact if he falls 70 feet before making contact with the landing ramp?
