Research Paper Instructions

After reviewing the Outline submissions many Students are not understanding the expectation for the Unit VIII Research Paper. The Syllabus is not clear and does lead one to write an accident analysis, which is why I had instructions to clarify those expectations in my Professor Helps.

I will be looking for a research paper on construction falls. An accident(s) should be used only to support research and not be the focus of your paper. I would not expect more than a paragraph on an accident(s) supporting your research. Also a review of OSHA Standards is not needed. Read what is a research paper in my Professor Helps. You are welcomed to use several accidents to support your research as long as you don't focus on that specific accident. Some Students have given the name of the injured person, described the effect on family, given the OSHA violation and fine amount, etc, all not desired in the paper. An acceptable example would be a paper on the safety belt vs harness with research and data - would be a research paper. Another example would be falls from ladders; what are the common causative factors, what does data indicate, what are the effective proven corrective measures? etc. Always the most important aspect of a research paper is the summary analysis by the writer of the research. Pay attention to APA format, have in text citations and much more than one or two references.

Accidents from falling are one of the leading causes of death and injuries in the construction industry. Find and review several articles in professional publications on construction-related fall accidents. Also, find and review several sample fall protection programs for construction companies, as well as visit ww.osha.gov for relevant fall protection requirements. Choose at least one accident you would like to research further and construct a paper that includes the following:

• A brief introduction of the problem with fall-related accidents in the construction industry.
• A review and analysis of the fall accident chosen for further research.
• A detailed discussion on the causative factors associated with the fall accident.
• A sample fall protection program developed to suit only the type of work being performed in the accident that is being reviewed. Be specific and include the factors related to the accident. (Do not include portions of a program not directly related to the work in the researched accident.)
• A summary of the student's conclusions on fall hazards in the construction industry, and opinions on the necessity for a fall protection plan.

Your research paper analysis should be at least five pages of text in 12-point double-spaced Times Roman font. Please include an APA style reference for the in-text citations and references that you use.
