Report and Presentation Assignment -

The assignment is a research paper for Electro-magnetics. You will submit a written report and make a short presentation on your selected topic. The topic has to be anything related to Electromagnetic.

You have two options to complete the term project:

  • Option 1 - Oral Presentation Option: You are required to submit a written report and make an oral presentation to the class. Format specifications for the report and presentation is given below.
  • Option 2 - Video Presentation Option: You are required to submit a written report and create a video presentation which will be posted to YouTube. Format specifications for the report and the presentation is given below.

REQUIRED SELECTION OF TOPICS

Your presentation can be on one of the following general topics and must relate to electromagnetics in some obvious and direct way

  • Sensors (wireless sensor networks, electromagnetic sensors, etc.)
  • New applications of wireless technology (e.g., smart highways, smart grid, RFID)
  • Energy and/or power (e.g., solar, wireless power transfer, transformers, etc.)
  • Automotive applications (e.g., radar, intelligent highway transportation systems)
  • Medical applications of electromagnetism
  • Optics

WRITTEN REPORT

REQUIRED sections in the Written Report (Label each section in your report accordingly!):

1. Abstract (3-5 sentences maximum).

2. Introduction (what you are going to say; usually 1-2 paragraphs).

3. Body of report (what you are saying).

4. Summary and Conclusions (summarize major points of what you said; 1 paragraph).

5. References (proper credit must be given to information sources).

REQUIRED Format Specifications for the Written Report:

5-point deduction for each format requirement that is not met.

  • Reports must be typed (word processor) using 12 point Times New Roman font.
  • A title and your name must appear at the top of the first page.
  • Use double spacing and 1" margins on all sides.
  • 5 page minimum excluding references (of these 5 pages, no more than 2 pages of illustrations/figures).
  • All illustrations/figures should be located at the end of the report and have appropriate captions or titles, and each must be referenced within the body of the report. You can cut/paste figures if needed.
  • References to a book, article, news story etc. must be indicated by a number in brackets within the body of the report, and the full reference given at the end of the report (see example on following page). You must use (not just list) at least two references.
  • You must provide the source of any figures you acquire, e.g., from the internet. You should put the reference number in brackets at the end of the figure caption, and include the full citation in the references section at the end of the report.

Option 1 - Oral Presentations:

Each presentation will be strictly timed to be 3 minutes or less and must include only two PowerPoint slides

  • Submission of your presentation file by the designated deadline making sure to include your last name in the filename (the first part of the filename so they appear alphabetically)
  • Quality of Slides
