A Metabolism Experiment
Course Outcomes: 
• recognize and describe how the scientific method is used to solve problems 
• use knowledge of biological principles and the scientific method to ask relevant problems, develop hypotheses, design and conduct experiments, interpret results, and draw conclusions 
The rate of photosynthesis and cellular respiration may vary with various environmental factors such as temperature, light intensity and wavelength, and CO2 concentration. 
Pick one organism of your choice, choose either photosynthesis or cellular respiration, and one environmental factor:
1. Design a scientific experiment to determine the effect of this environmental factor on the rate of photosynthesis or cellular respiration in your chosen organism (review the scientific method; remember all steps, a good hypothesis, control etc.) 
2. describe how you would measure the rate of photosynthesis or cellular respiration in your experiment (Hints: What are the overall products and reactants for each metabolic reaction? Do a web search if you need ideas!) 
3. Describe the results you would expect and describe why you would expect these results. Does the results support your hypothesis? 
To obtain full credit you need to post a substantial reply that contributes to your classmates' learning (11 points).
