Q. Haplopappus gracilis is a diploid plant with only two pairs of chromosomes. Assume that a G1-stage cell of this plant was growing in culture medium containing radioactive 3H-thymidine. After one generation of growth on this medium, cells were transferred to the medium with non-radioactive thymine and colchicin (does not allow cells to divide, stop division at metaphase) were allowed to grow for another generation. Next the chromosomes were spread in the microscope slide, stained, photographed and exposed to an emulsion sensitive to low-energy radiation. Illustrate the metaphase cell of this culture showing predicted distribution of radioactivity on the autoradiograph.
