Project - Phase

This project is individual work. Write a computer program using Matlab to read the engineering constants E1, E2, v12, and G12 then computes and prints the Reduced Compliances Matrix [S], the Reduced Stiffness Matrix [Q], the Rotated Transformed Compliance Matrix [S]xy, and the Rotated/Transformed Stiffness Matrix [Q]xy for any given single lamina. For now:

1. Using your program, plot the variation of Q-11, Q-12, Q-22, Q-16, Q-26, and Q-66, with ply angle θ ranging between -90° to 90°. Carry out these plots for Glass/Epoxy, Graphite/poxy, and Steel materials. Plot the three materials on the same graph. Discuss your results in well written report. Be creative in plotting! for example you can plot  Q-11 and Q-22 on the same graph or you can plot and Q-16, and Q-26, on the same graph!

2. For the same materials mentioned above, using this program also plot the variation of Ex, Ey, vxy, vyx and Gxy with ply-angle θ ranging between -90° to 90°. Discuss your results in well written report. Think as an engineer and be creative in plotting! For example, plot Ex and Ey, or plot vxy and vyx on the same graph.

Write your project in well written report using the format given on the course page. Start by the problem statement, material properties, and then discuss your results in a professional manner using your engineering information. Attached the program and any extra output results in the appendix at the end of your report and prepare to answer any questions. You will also need to upload your report and Matlab program on the course page.

This program might later be modified to calculate stresses and strains involving both mechanical and thermal effects for lamina and laminates.
