Problem statement: A specialized piece of laboratory test equipment, called a spectrum analyzer, will be placed on a mobile push cart. The spectrum analyzer measures the amplitude of wireless signals as a function of frequency but may also be placed in a mode where it operates similar to an oscilloscope displaying the signal amplitude as a function of time. This will be the preferred mode of operation formthis experiment. The horizontal axis, i.e. sweep time, of the analyzer can be precisely set by the user, as an example, sweep time = 5 seconds meaning that it takes 5 seconds to make one complete sweep across the instrument display. You may adjust the sweep time to any value. The user pushes /pulls/operates a motor so that the cart moves along a linear path that is approximately 10 feet in length. It is required to know the exact length traveled as the analyzer sweeps across the predefined time. Knowing the travel length will allow the user to translate the sweep time on the analyzer to physical distance moved across the floor. The velocity must be constant across the motion otherwise there will be a non-linear relationshiProblem statement: A specialized piece of laboratory test equipment, called a spectrum analyzer, will be placed on a mobile push cart. Knowing the travel length will allow the user to translate the sweep time on the analyzer to physical distance moved across the floor. The velocity must be constant across the motion otherwise there will be a non-linear relationship between measurement time and distance. The analyzer's measurement can be started with a TTL (0->3.5volt) pulse triggering the instrument. At the end of the analyzer's measurement sweep, the analyzer will produce a pulse signifying that the instrument sweep is complete, this is the point where the total distance must be determined.p between measurement time and distance.
