Part -1:

Section A

Design a Welded Storage Rack for hand loading in the office, garage, retail, factory and warehouse. Five 150 cm wide by 60 cm deep shelves, and adjust in 20 cm increments. Accessible from the front or the back, each shelf supports up to 100 kg evenly distributed.

Use frame generator in INVENTOR to design an efficient Storage Rack and run a FEA analysis and submit report to include the following.

1. Show the 3 (three) models together with the 2D vital dimensions of your designed rack, each steel members details and its total mass.

2. Show and describe the calculations for input load on the rack

3. Show and describe all boundary conditions specified in your model and meshing information

Include the results of your FEA analysis with the following contour output and your interpretation/comments.

4. The equivalent stress (Von Misses stress) contour diagram

5. The equivalent displacement contour diagram

6. The safety factor contour diagram

7. Conclusion of your design

Section B

Gantry crane is type of crane which lift objects by a hoist which is fitted in a hoist trolley and can move horizontally on a rail or pair of rails fitted under a beam. Design a mini mobile gantry crane with lifting capacity 1.5 tonnes. Trolley and hoist weight are neglected. The crane size is 4 m long and 4 m high. Use frame generator in INVENTOR to design a mobile gantry crane and run a FEA analysis for the following two working conditions. Submit your report for the following.

1. Show the 3 (three) models together with the 2D vital dimensions of your designed gantry crane and its total mass.

2. Show the calculations for input load on the crane

3. Show all boundary conditions specified in your model and meshing information

Include the results of your FEA analysis with the following contour output and your interpretation/comments.

4. The equivalent stress (Von Misses stress) contour diagram

5. The equivalent displacement contour diagram

6. The safety factor contour diagram

7. Conclusion of your design

Part -2:

The submission shall be in the form of a technical report which will contain sufficient details for the reader to understand your 3D modelling and all the boundary condition together with input parameters that you have used in the simulation. The report must include all relevant CFD outputs and contour to show your design satisfies the operating requirements. Any duplication of work by other shall be dealt with severely.

This problem involves analysis of fluid flow and heat transfer carried out simultaneously.

1. Consider the steady state case of a fluid flowing past a model. The density of the fluid is set to 1.225 kg/m3, and the dynamic viscosity is set to 1.7894e-5 kg/ms.

Calculate the Reynolds's number using the equation: Re=[(density*mean velocity*diameter)/(dynamic viscosity). Sketch a rectangular 2-D wind tunnel (fluid) 500 cmx 240 cm.

Design and draw Model of the Aircraft wing and visualize the flow using Ansys fluent.

a) Drawing the model
b) Drawing the wind tunnel
c) Application of boundary conditions
d) Results
e) Conclusions
