But even when consequences aren't as serious, the need is also great. The truth is that nearly anyone can steer the ship, but it takes a leader to chart the course.

1. What are some of the things that Amundsen planned for that Scott overlooked?

2. How did Scott's lack of leadership skills affect his team?

3. In your organization what events or projects could have been planned better? What do you think the outcome would have been if the team had a leader who was a good navigator?

4. Who are the top navigators in your field? How have their leadership skills benefited their organizations?

5. Describe a situation in which you skipped one of the steps in the navigation process. What was the outcome?

6 How do you prepare your team for projects? In your opinion do you need to spend more time on planning? What prevents you from doing so? How can you more effectively plan to plan?
