Lead used to be in gasoline, but since gas is now unleaded, air-born lead has been greatly reduced, a success story. Now most lead is found in old pipes and old paint, found primarily in poorer, inner city areas, where it still affects little kids who like to eat paint chips. Plus we have seen the recent stories about lead in Chinese-manufactured toys and other products such as pottery and ceramic mugs. It seems that lead can often find it's way into many household items. 
Oxides of carbon are released with the burning of fossil fuels, and particulate matter is sent up from smoke, construction and agricultural operations, etc.

Now let's go deeper into the oxides of nitrogen and sulfur, and acid rain (or snow, hail, fog, dust...acid deposition). 

What produces these chemicals, how do they result in acid rain, and what are the effects of acid rain?
