Now consider the cooling process. It takes place in a heat exchanger (HX). Warm air. at 75 F, is flows into one side of the HX and exits at 60 F. Chilled water at 50 F enters the other side of the HX and exits at 55 F. What water mass flow rate is required? Report your answer in gpm (gallons/minute). The analysis you just performed assumes no heat exchange between the HX and its surroundings. Since the surroundings are at the same temperature of the building (nominally 72 F in the summer), this is not true. Assume a 5000 Btu/hr heat loss from the HX and compute a new value for the water mass flow rate. Again report your answer in gpm.
