Microbiology Paper

Write a 3-4 page paper on microbilogy topic. The topic and instructions are including in the word document. Must meet APA guidlines and free of plagerism. Must have the ability to use turnitin and provide a copy of the submitted plagerism report.

Writing Task 2 Parts

Part 1: One Paragraph

Write a one paragraph summary(approximately 150 words or more) on the topic of Lichen. A well-thought out proposal paragraph might even work as the introduction for your completed writing task.Your paragraph should present a general summary of the concept to be researched.

In addition, the proposal should also list at least three sources you could use in writing the final paper.

• Web sources are acceptable, provided they are reputable sources and cited correctly.

• Microbiology textbook is an acceptable source.

• References must be written in complete and correct APA citation format.

• Annotate each reference by describing what information the source contains that you might use in your paper. Annotating allows you to be sure the sources you have found will be useful.

• The three sources listed here do not have to be used for the final paper, if you find others that you prefer, but you will need at least four sources for the final paper.

• An APA guideline of sorts is included in this document.

Part 2: 3-4 page (not including references and title)

BIBLIOGRAPHY/REFERENCES

a. Find at least FOUR sources of information regarding your organism/topic. You do not have to use the three from the proposal, if you have found other sources you prefer.

b. Your sources MUST be correctly cited in the bibliography and in-text using APA citation format. All sources must be scientifically valid (e.g., no Wikipedia, online dictionaries, online encyclopedias, etc.). I do not require a cover page, abstract, running header, or other APA format items.

c. Plagiarism is a serious problem in science writing. Some of the problem stems from people not understanding what plagiarism is. Some of the problem comes from people thinking plagiarism is no big deal. I consider plagiarism to be a big deal. I consider it to be intellectual theft and academic dishonesty. Spend the time to properly paraphrase. You will NOT be allowed to use any quotations in this paper. To help you with avoiding plagiarism, paraphrasing, reading and writing science, finding/evaluating sources, I recommend you look at the following sites:

• http://ww2.valdosta.edu/~cbarnbau/personal/teaching_MISC/plagiarism.htm

d. Your report must include a bibliography page written in APA citation format including the author(s) name, the publication date, the title, and publication location:publisher (or a working URL for an Internet source). Use caution when using a computer to generate references as citation programs (and some Writing Center tutors) struggle with organizations as authors (I have seen American Society for Microbiology written as Microbiology, A.S.F. and Centers for Disease Control written as Control, C.F.D.).

e. Remember that sometimes the author of something is not a single person but is an organization (CDC, FDA, OSHA, ASM, etc.). In these cases you are to cite the organization as the author. Ask for help rather than losing points for not having the author and title cited correctly.

f. All sources must be appropriately cited in-text. Quotations of any sort are not allowed -paraphrase.

3. FORMAT

Paper should be approximately 3-4 pages of text (minimum 1000 words, maximum 1250 words), double-spaced, using a standard font and margins. Pictures, etc. that you may choose to include do not count toward the page total. The reference list does not count toward the page total. A cover sheet is NOT required. An abstract is NOT required. You do not need a running header, etc. I want the references and in-text citations in APA format, not all the other APA formatting processes.

4. WHAT TO INCLUDE IN THE ACTUAL TEXT OF YOUR PAPER (note the outline given here should provide you with an excellent outline for use in the paper (use the rubric to determine how much attention should be paid to each concept:

A. introduction - tell what the paper is about without giving all the details

B. description of the concept of symbiosis

1. types of symbiosis that exist
2. brief example of each type
3. type of symbiosis you are writing about

C. partners involved

1. description of first organism (write about microorganism first if only one partner is a microbe)

a. for living organism (classification (domain, kingdom, genus, species) OR for non-living entity (name of virus and viral family)
b. physical description/identifying characteristics (size, special staining characteristics, growth characteristics, etc.)

2. description of second organism

a. for living organism (classification (domain, kingdom, genus, species) OR for non-living entity (name of virus and viral family (or if it is a prion))

b. physical description/identifying characteristics (size, special staining characteristics, growth characteristics, etc.)

D. relationship

1. benefits/harm/neutrality

a. what benefits does each organism receive from the relationship?
b. can the partners survive without each other? If not, why not? If yes, how?
c. is either organism harmed (or potentially harmed) in any way?

2. development of relationship

a. what environmental factors may have led to the development of this relationship?
b. what other factors may have influenced the relationship (e.g., human interference)

D. history of your relationship

1. when was this relationship first discovered?
2. how was the relationship discovered?
3. what research is currently being done on the relationship?

E. conclusion - summarize the information, complete the process.
