Major Assignment: Employment Outlook Report

In the groups from your previous assignment, research the employment outlook for your future profession. Present your findings as a formal research report that academic advisors and undergraduate directors would use to advise and recruit students into your major.

Each team member is responsible for locating and synthesizing data from the Occupational Outlook Handbook (Bureau of Labor Statistics) as well as 3 current job postings in your desired field and location. Each team member will also interview 1 relevant professional who works outside the university (this is an opportunity to network on LinkedIn). As a team, synthesize all this primary and second research and then present it to readers in a form that reflects the principles of effective technical communication.

The final report should run about 3,000-3,500 words.

Additionally, you will communicate with your team members using the project management tool you recommended in the previous assignment.

The report will beassessed on your ability to analyze, synthesize, and visualize technical information.See the assessment rubric on Blackboard for more information. After the project's completion, you will also evaluate each of your team members' contributions to the project.

Report Structure

Your final report should include the following sections (see Chapter 21 of Lannon and Gurak):

• Front Matter
o Title page
o Table of contents
o List of tables and figures
o Abstract

• Introduction
o Purpose statement
o General overview of your field(s)
o Background (historical information on the evolution of your field)
o Roadmap of the report's structure

• Data Section
o Report of findings (e.g., research from the Occupational Outlook handbook, job postings, and interviews)

• Conclusion
o Summary of overall findings/employment outlook
o Recommendations for readers related to future student advising and recruitment

• References (Use a citation style common in your field. See Appendix A of Lannon and Gurak)
