It is a chance for us to design our own basic power plant schematics. The professor said that we will have to use the reheat option to get the desired isentropic efficiency with the the desired quality.

Reheating schematics involves 2 turbines. Please let me know if you can complete the assignment with in the timeframe and 100 accurate.

Develop the preliminary design for a steam power plant. The plant must produce 1000 MW of electricity using water as the working fluid and a supercritical pressure of 24 MPa.

The following is a list of requirements and constraints:

• maximum cycle temperature is 600?C and the maximum pressure is 24 MPa
• minimum quality at turbine exit is 90%
• turbine and turbine stages operate with isentropic efficiency of 85%
• pump operates with isentropic efficiency of 88%
• heat rejection at condenser using water from nearby lake

Include the following in your problem write-up/report:

a. Objective: statement of design objective

b. Background: a short paragraph related to chosen cycle and real world context. may also consider motivation for supercritical pressure, cite any references used.

c. Engineering model: indicate all key assumptions and system specifications

d. Description of system: schematic of cycle layout indicating all components and states; operating temperatures and pressures at key points within the system (show states and processes on T - s diagram)

e. Design process: description of rationale for all designer selected conditions, e.g., if reheat should be included and why, and at what pressure.

f. Analysis and calculations: complete analysis of system operating conditions, energy transfer rates, and performance

g. Results: include required energy (heat) input rate from source, mass flow rate, thermal efficiency of system

h. Conclusion: comment on results
