It is said that "music soothes the savage beast." But what about the anxious heart? Dr. Easy Listening wishes to find out if soft music would be a gentle balm to the frazzled nerves of statistics students and thus improve their performance on exams. In discussing this experiment with his teaching assistant, Mr. Rapidfire Rapper, Rapidfire suggested taht another group of students listent o rap music while taking the exam. So the experiment was set up; Dr. Listening scheduled the exam to be given in different rooms, and students were randomly assigned to each room. In one room, only some favorite selections of Dr. Easy Listening's music would be heard. In the other room, Rapidfire provided selections of his favorite artists, including 50 cent, Trick Daddy and Jay-Z. The exam results are below.
Easy Listen: 78 80 59 72 85 96 77 65 74 88 92 69 72 87 93 79 86 90 66
Rap: 44 58 61 36 49 53 67 39 45 53 63 32 40 52 61 30 47 54 64 28 42
What do the results mean? Is one type of music better at enhancing student performance?
Please help me! I need to run this in SPSS for my Biostats class but I'm not sure what tests to run to see what the results mean? Your helps is appreciated.
