1. Explore the Developing your Career website. http://www.boe.ca.gov/exams/workingyourwayup/career.htm

2. We all need to manage our own careers; organizations will not do this for us. Enhancing and managing our career is an ongoing process, not just something that you do when circumstances make it a necessity. This summary gave a self assessment as to how to develop our career. When developing a career things to think about are Traits or skills that are required, Aspects of the previous jobs you liked and disliked, and your willingness to relocate or work other than a normal work shift. I'm actually in the process now of looking for another opportunity. I actually use these three things that I just mentioned when looking to start my new career. If the job consists of night shift or weekends, I start looking elsewhere because I know that I'm unable to meet those expectations.

3. I agree with you, we are responsible to manage our own careers not the organization that we work for. Many times professionals stall their progress and blame the organization for making them too comfortable. I really think individuals need to accept a position while forecasting where they plan to be in 5 years. If a professional can always be looking ahead and asking themselves how this position is going to better prepare them for their next step they will be eager to perform. Many industries, including healthcare allow employees to get too comfortable. If I interview for a registered nurse I am always going to ask where do you see yourself in 5 years? If they tell me they will be punching the time clock in and out and that is it I won't really remember them. The candidates I will remember are those who have thought about where they want to be and how they'll get there. So many organizations are now offering tuition reimbursement and internships it is a great way to connect with a potential leader that can train on the job.

4. What are some of the benefits of creating a personal action plan? What have you learned about yourself through the process?

5. A key part to everyone's personal action plan should be the portfolio. A portfolio is composed of many elements. What part of the portfolio do you think is the most important content element?

6. A key component to your personal action plan would be setting goals. Here is an activity to add to this discussion on personal action plans. Conduct research online about setting goals. What tips did you find that are helpful to you in creating goals?

7. What continuing-education opportunities currently exist to further extend your health care knowledgec in your chosen career or role?

8. Every career in healthcare has some element of continuing education, whether it be continuing with graduate school, certifications, seminars, and the list goes on. As a healthcare leader it will be important to contnually evaluate what you each need for your own continuing education. For myself, I plan on continuing on with my doctorate at some point and possibly pursuing more certifications. I try to go to conferences on a variety of healthcare issues at least 3 times a year to stay current. I also keep up with basic life support, advanced life support to stay current on clinical skills. I look forward to hearing what all of you are planning for your continuing education. (P.S. use this platform to write the response for #8; Plan A- I plan on doing Accelerated 1 year BS in Nursing, work as a Traveling Nurse then pursue my MS in Nursing Administrator, and then DNP- short term goals, Plan B- Go for MS in Pharmaceutical Outcomes- Regulations, plan on having an Adult Care day/ Home Care Business in the near future, have a non-profit organization helping children all over the world).

9. I obviously believe that a Master's degree will make one more competitive in their given field, but, I like to imagine that if you stay within a given organization, your work ethic and perseverance also holds a lot of merit. Have you found this to be true? Have you stayed within the same organization or have you found yourself at several at this stage in your own career?

10. A personal action plan is a plan you develop to meet personal goals. This is your chance to look at your personal strengths and weaknesses and identify areas where you can improve. Use these areas to create personal goals. These are goals you want to accomplish regardless of your chosen career. These can be in general areas such as organization and time management, or they can be more specific to your chosen field. For example, you might want to know more about emerging technology in health care or about current legislation affecting health care delivery systems. Complete the attached Material: Personal Action Plan

11. Read and discuss your thoughts in 150- 200 words on the creating a personal strategic plan- https://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P3-1396747281.html and creating actionable goals http://veritaslg.com/assets/files/Articles/Coaching/Creating%20Actionable%20Goals.pdf
