Genetics Project

This PowerPoint project assignment represents your synthesis and research of a large scale concept in genetics applied to a specific topic or situation.

Projects represent the student's original work and thought with carefully cited research. Specific, detailed instructions and the list of potential topics and activities can be found in the online classroom.

These project assignments will require time and thought. This first project is due in Week 8. This projectis worth 140 points, which is 14% of the total grade. Plagiarism is not tolerated and will result in a zero score, at minimum. If you have any questions about proper citation and what constitutes of plagiarism please ask.

Project Topic

Choose one topic from the list below that you would like to know more about. These topics allow you to explore a pattern of genetic inheritance that has been covered in the course (Chapters 9-16 & 22-23, Snustad& Simmons, Principles of Genetics).

Conduct research via the APUS online library and the internet to find credible information on your chosen topic.

Find at least five reference sources that will be used in your project. Here is a list of topics to choose from (you can propose your own topic but you must email and gain approval of the topic from the instructor):

• Human Genome Project

• Genetics of Progerias (premature aging diseases)

• Interpretation of BRCA1 &BRCA2 Markers for Breast and Ovarian Cancer

• Genetics of Antibiotic/Antimicrobial Resistance

• Genetics of Sickle Cell Anemia: Effect of Malaria Parasite (Plasmodium falciparum) and the Mosquito Vector (Anopheles gambiae)

• Quantitative Trait Loci (QTL) Analysis
