Eukaryotic cells may divide by mitosis or meiosis. In the humans, mitosis generates new cells for growth and repair. And, meiosis generates sex cells (gametes), known as sperm and eggs. Alterations or mutations in the genes in sex cells may be inherited through the human offspring. Genetic variation in the population of organisms is good; but, sometimes mutations can be harmful or cause genetic disorders.
Explain briefly how do the meiosis and the sexual reproduction (fertilization) generate the offspring which differ genetically from parents?
