From Oregon to Southern California there is a putative hybrid zone between two closely-related species of pine - Pinus ponderosa and P. jeffreyi. Describe what is known about the extent of hybridization based on morphological characters (check the USDA web site and other sources). Design a research program (one or more experiments) that will evaluate the extent of hybridization and introgression between these two species and to characterize the dynamics of the putative hybrid zone. Feel free to use a wide range of approaches from field/ecological research techniques to genomics.
