A particular cell type has an average of 2000 receptors of a specific type. You have a culture of these cells, which you expose to the specific ligand for the receptor in problem. After an hour, you analyze the cells in culture and you find that the average number of receptors is now 1,200. What do you think happened to describe the decrease in the average number of receptors? Why would this occur?
