Effects of long term malnutrition on children

The effects of long time malnutrition are more severe in children.
Unlike adults children do not have sufficient amounts of carbohydrates and fats in reserve and the rate of metabolism is also high.
So in long term malnutrition, their body reserves are used up very quickly.
When the body proteins are used up the child quickly loses body mass.
Such children have very low resistance and cannot defend against diseases.
The most common disease in these children is persistent diarrhoea.
As a result of diarrhoea they become weak.
In such children the growth of the brain becomes slow. So they have difficulties in learning and other mental activities.
