The critique is designed for you to make a scientific assessment of a Complementary/Alternative medicinal product. The Topic coordinator will provide each student with the product to be critiqued and provide some direction on databases and other sources of information that will assist the student to complete the exercise. The critique must include relevant and established scientific/biological information on the actual condition/disease that is being treated, and the current medical treatment for this. You will then research the effective ingredient/s of the complementary product and the literature surrounding it's claimed benefits and weigh these claimed benefits from the analysis of evidence based data banks e.g. Cochrane Reports. Finally you will make a value judgment on the efficacy of the product and whether or not you believe it has claimed medical benefits.
