Insulin is a protein, produced by human pancreas cells, that helps to regulate blood glucose levels. People with Type I Diabetes cannot produce sufficient amounts of insulin and must inject insulin on a daily basis. Today, almost all prescription insulin is produced by microorganisms, like bacteria, that are engineered to contain the human insulin genetic information.
EUKARYOTIC AND PROKARYOTIC GENE EXPRESSION

The production of bacteria that produce human insulin highlights the uniformity of genetic processes across widely different organisms. But prokaryotic (bacterial) genetic systems are not identical to eukaryotic (e.g., human) genetic systems.

Describe the process of gene expression, beginning with transcription and including RNA processing and translation. Which aspects of these processes are consistent between prokaryotes and eukaryotes? Which aspects differ between prokaryotes and eukaryotes?
