Assignment Structure

Recommended percentages are approximate guidance only and the final composition of the work is up to you after due consultation with your academic supervisor.

Title Page

Containing: Module code, Module Title, Your enrolment / registration number and word count.

There must be no names anywhere in the assignment which might identify you in order to facilitate anonymous marking.

You may wish to give the assignment a title.

All words from the beginning of the introduction to the end of the conclusion (not including references) must be counted.

You must state on a separate page at the beginning of your assignment the negotiated theoretical learning outcomes.

Introduction: (approx 10%) 500 words

This will indicate who you are, what you do and in what context you do it. Do not give any identifying names of people or places.

The rest of the introduction will outline what the reader will expect to perceive as they proceed, so you may wish to write it after you have finished the main body of the assignment. Some people will prefer to do this. Others however, will find that writing the introduction at the beginning will help shape and organise their thoughts. Whatever way you work, it will be useful to plan your intentions and discuss those intentions with your academic supervisor. If you write the introduction at the start of your work, it is good practice to refer back to the introduction at the end to check that you have indeed done what is outlined. If there are differences between what you say that you intend to do and what you actually write in the assignment these differences need to be corrected.

Main Body: (approx 80%)

What is/are the issue/s? How is it defined or conceptualized? Critically discuss the wider prevalence of the issue/s and then relate to your specific professional context. What is the current situation in relation to the issue/s in your specific professional context? What is the desirable situation? Critically debate of the evidence which supports this improvement and/or innovation. (50% of the words in this section)1500 words

Supported by pertinent management of change literature, propose how you intend to promote the desired improvement/innovation in the context of your professional practice. As previously stated, you are advised use a model of change which is appropriate to the nature of the proposed improvement and the context in which it will occur. (50% of the words in this section)1200 words

Conclusion (approx 10-15%) 300 words

This will summarize the main body of the assignment and highlight specific areas for attention that emanate from the main body of the text.

References (Harvard Style)

It is very important that your referencing technique is accurate; therefore please seek support from your academic supervisor, the student advice shop or the Blackboard Module - Study Skills

Appendices

As a rule appendices are not marked or considered as part of the main assignment. We therefore encourage you not to use appendices.

Critical Thinking & the Marking Grid

At level 6, it is important that you demonstrate a high level of thinking. However well-written, description-only is insufficient and is unlikely to achieve a pass. The markers will expect to see evaluation and analysis of literature, with evidence of your own thought processes and suggestions. Familiarise yourself with the Level 6 Marking Grid, and make sure that you write at this level. For example, "Can evaluate/argue alternative approaches/viewpoints", "Clear, well-supported arguments that incorporate own viewpoint".
