TASK INTRODUCTION - You are a consultant electrical engineer. You have been asked to analyse a number of AC equivalent circuits using transformation theorem and document your findings in a technical report.

TASK 1: Calculate the parameters of AC equivalent circuits using transformation theorems

You must answers parts A, B and C

Part A: For the circuit shown below determine:-

(i) The value of R to provide maximum power to the load

(ii) The maximum power transferred in the load.

Part B:

(i) A delta configured network has the following values ZA = j15Ω, ZB = -j20Ω and ZC = 5Ω. Convert the network to star configuration.

(ii) A star configured network has the following values Z1 = j20Ω, Z2 = j10 Ω and Z3 = -j5Ω. Convert the network to delta configuration.

Part C: For the network shown below determine the current with phase angle and power dissipated in the load connected between A and B using ONE of the following circuit transformation theorems.

(i) Thevenin       

(ii) Norton

Task Description - You are consultant electrical engineer. You have been asked to magnetically coupled circuits and document your findings in a technical report.

TASK 1: Analyse the operation of magnetically coupled circuits

Part A: List the main factors that causes magnetic coupling in electric circuits.

Part B: Two coils are connected in series and their effective inductance is found to be 15mH. When the connection to one coil is reversed, the effective inductance is found to be 10mH. If the coefficient of coupling is 0.7, determine the self inductance of each coil.

Part C: The circuit diagram of an air-cored transformer is shown below. The coefficient of coupling between primary and secondary windings is 0.7. Determine:

(a) The mutual inductance

(b) The primary current

(c) The secondary current and terminal load voltage.
